History of Our Madrasha

Our History

Editorial
As I sit down to write the editorial column commemorating the centenary of the Beladanga Jalilia Darul Huda Madrasah, I find myself deeply moved. I never felt worthy of being the editor of this revered and Allah-fearing institution. However, with everyone's heartfelt love, affection, and cooperation, this daunting task has become much easier. The Jalilia Madrasah is one of the oldest madrasahs in West Bengal. It is said to be the mother of all madrasahs in the region. Almost all the madrasas in West Bengal have been established with this madrasa as their model and inspiration. Those of us who are alive today were not present at the auspicious birth of this madrasah. Hazrat Abdul Jalil (RA) gained proximity to Allah due to his education, conduct, and human qualities. Allah's blessings permeated every aspect of his life. Inspired by his own learning and teaching others, the desire to establish a madrasa grew within him. With the guidance of Pir Fakir Ahmed Sahib and Pir Yasin Sahib of Bohrampur Gorabazar, this madrasa was established in a serene corner of a bamboo grove in 1914. With time, it has faced many ups and downs, witnessed storms and trials. The journey of these one hundred years was not easy. During this journey, the madrasa experienced subjugation, enjoyed the ecstasy of independence, witnessed the bloodshot eyes of rulers, and saw doubtful minds turn towards the madrasah with curious eyes. Amidst all the challenges, Alhaj Khodabkhash Sahib, the eminent figure of the locality, stood by Maulana Sahib with his open-hearted support. Today, all of that is in the past. Disregarding all ties and complexities, the madrasah now floats in the serene, open, and expansive sky like a free bird. The noble purpose of igniting the lamp of religion in every household has propelled its journey towards success, winning the hearts of the people. The small madrasah of that time has now transformed into a grand edifice. It has surpassed the levels of schools, colleges, and universities. In the vast building of three stories, the work of education, remembrance of Allah, and recitation of tasbih continue day and night. Stepping into the madrasa, one feels an aura of peace and submission to Allah. Currently, the activities of the madrasah span a wide range. Many renowned scholars receive education here and spread the light of religion not only in various parts of India but also in different countries around the world. Many famous teachers, with all their love, dedication, and commitment, have enriched the madrasah with their teachings. They have been instrumental in the growth and glory of the madrasah. On the occasion of its centenary, I extend heartfelt respect and salutations to all those former honorable teachers and students of the madrasah. Great deeds are not accomplished without great souls and great fields. Two hundred years ago, Haji Muhammad Mohsin endowed his vast wealth for the education of Muslims. Society has been reaping the benefits of his deed for ages.
